Notifications

Keel can post to a Slack or Microsoft Teams channel, or send an email, when something happens in your workspace. The default is a monitored check changing status, for example a GitHub check failing because someone switched off branch protection. You set this up on the Notifications tab under Integrations.

Only an owner or admin can add or remove a channel. A workspace holds up to 10 channels, counting chat channels and email recipients together.

  1. Create an incoming webhook in the chat app (see below) and copy its URL.
  2. On the Notifications tab, open Add a channel.
  3. Under App, choose Slack or Microsoft Teams.
  4. Paste the URL into Incoming webhook URL.
  5. Give the channel a Name you will recognize later, such as #security-alerts.
  6. Under Send, pick what to post (see below), then click Add channel.

Keel stores the webhook URL encrypted and never shows it again. The channel list shows its name, the app, the webhook’s host and the event it receives. To change a channel, remove it and add it again.

  • Slack: an incoming webhook URL on hooks.slack.com.
  • Microsoft Teams: a Workflows URL from the “post to a channel when a webhook request is received” template. Older incoming-webhook URLs on webhook.office.com are still accepted while Microsoft keeps them working.

Keel refuses any other URL, so a channel can only ever post to Slack or Microsoft.

  1. On the Notifications tab, open Add an email recipient.
  2. Enter one Email address. It must be on the same email domain as your own sign-in address, so a team list such as security@yourcompany.com works and an outside address is refused.
  3. Give it a Name, such as Security team. Without one, the address is used.
  4. Under Send, pick what to email (see below), then click Add recipient.

Keel stores the address encrypted. The list shows the name, Email, the address’s domain and the event it receives. Each email has the same headline as the chat message and an Open in Keel button.

SMS recipients are coming soon. The form on the Notifications tab is shown but turned off until texting is available.

The Send menu offers:

  • Monitored check changes status: posts when an evidence connection check changes status, for example from passing to failing. The message names the source, the check, and its old and new status.
  • Every event: everything Keel emits.
  • One named event, such as task.created, risk.updated or policy.approved. These are the same events the webhook API offers.

Each message carries an Open in Keel link to the relevant page. In Teams it arrives as an Adaptive Card.
